I was walking along the beach today and I noticed that 90% of the people that passed by had their shoes on! I could see the enjoyment they were experiencing from breathing in the fresh air and spending time in the sun. They were, however, missing out on the ‘juiciest’ part of walking along the beach… you guessed it, walking on the sand barefoot, just as nature had intended. This got me thinking; perhaps most people are just not aware of this little gem, and it’s time that we started spreading the word.

What is ‘grounding’ or ‘earthing’ really about?

Earthing is a fast-growing movement based upon the discovery that connecting to the earth’s natural energy is the foundation for vibrant health. Walking barefoot outside, with the soles of your feet free to directly connect with the surface of the earth, is the main activity that’s a part of the earthing or grounding practice. Some health practitioners are referring to it as Vitamin-G, with the G standing for ‘grounding’.

How does ‘earthing’ improve your health?

Ditching your shoes and digging your toes into the sand can benefit your health by lowering free radical damage, also known as oxidative stress, inside your body. It is an established, though not widely appreciated fact, that the earth’s surface possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free electrons. The earth’s negative charges can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of your body systems which may be necessary for setting your biological clock, regulating your circadian rhythms, and balancing your cortisol levels.

So, in summary, walking barefoot on the earth is like eating a whole bunch of antioxidants. It can reduce your inflammation, reduce your stress hormones, increase your energy levels and improve your sleep, and the best thing about earthing is that it is super simple, free and it can be done anywhere at any time!
